Vibuntu - Ubuntu Linux for Visually Impaired

Summary:

Vibuntu is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 8.10 design especially for visually impaired.

Vibuntu, the customized version of Ubuntu designed to meet the needs of visually impaired users, has been developed by Anthony Sales of the RNCB - Royal National College for the Blind, in England, UK.

According to one of our users' experience, Ubuntu is one of the most accessible Linux release. Anyway, Vibuntu is the first Linux distribution to be fully accessible to blind and partially sighted users.
Vibuntu can be used as

  • a live CD
  • a portable OS on a USB memory stick
  • a stand-alone OS on your computer
  • a boot alternative for Windows

The ORCA screen-reader is activated automatically upon boots, as well as the USB Braille displays. The screen magnifier can be turned on or off with a keystroke.
